Places of interest in Delhi, New Delhi and not very far from Delhi NEW DELHI Part of Delhi - built by the British depicting the Anglo-Indian architecture with spacious boulevards and bungalows is known as New Delhi. Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, India Gate and Connaught Place are the prominent landmarks. In Connaught Place the buildings are arranged in two concentric circles with radial roads leading outwards, cutting the circular inner roads. Connaught Place (CP) is Delhi's most popular shopping and business center. At the center of the concentric circle of buildings lies Palika Bazaar - an underground air-conditioned shopper's paradise. Janpath is a well-known street for all kinds of handicrafts, affordable trendy fashion wear and accessories. All major airlines have their ticketing offices in CP. Air France recently shifted their office right under our floor area. CP is full of Delhi's best eateries. With the common man's dhaba (small restaurant) to expensive air-conditioned restaurants and fast food / ice cream parlors. CP offers a complete range of world cuisine within a walking distance. Plaza, Regal, Odeon and Rivoli are CP's cinema halls screening the best of Hindi and English movies. Sapru House, Kamani Auditorium, Shri Ram Center, Triveni Kala Sangam, Lalit Kala Academy are some of the art and cultural centers offering a variety of performances for lovers of classical dance / music, fine arts and theatre. OLD DELHI The old culture and traditions of Delhi are still in vogue in Old Delhi. One has to be here to get the real feel of celebrations of festivals. There is always something on in Old Delhi to celebrate and enjoy. Since centuries it has been the center of bullion and wholesale market - gold and silver ornaments, spices, pulses and grains, textiles, handicrafts .......... The traditional food and snacks still attract people from far and wide ........ This is another great area to go for shopping ......... Places of interest in Old Delhi: Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Feroz Shah Kotla, Raj Ghat, Chandni Chowk, Dariba, and the many lanes and by- lanes................ Delhi offers an unlimited means of transport ranging from the most ordinary to the luxurious. There are many tour operators running Airconditioned Deluxe Buses and chauffeur driven aircondition cars available to take one around the city for sight seeing and to other cities like Agra, Jaipur, Mathura .... besides official agencies like India Tourism Corporation of India (I.T.D.C.), Delhi Transport Corporation (D.T.C.) and Delhi Tourism Development Agency. Large number of these operators are based in Connaught Place. Few trips are a one day affair, while a few need at least two to three over-night stays. The best offers can be had directly from the tour operators. No waiting period as there are many good tour operators. It is very easy to book a seat for the tour after arriving in Delhi. |
